Jones Burke is fortunate to have a very high level of experience in our Patent Legal Assistant (PLA) and docketing roles – a key component in delivering excellent service to our clients. Our standout team is composed of professionals who have been practicing their specialty for years and bring valuable insight across a wide range of scenarios. Counterparts on the client side, such as paralegals and docketing staff, often reach out for assistance, and our team is well-equipped to offer insights and process advice, including support across various platforms common to the IP space.
The depth of talent and experience on our team enables us to provide excellent work product and to identify and address unique issues that might arise. This experience allows us to help clients correct errors that may have been overlooked, unnoticed, or unknowingly caused by prior firms.
Stacey Moore
Patent Legal Administration Manager
Stacey joined the Jones Burke team in March of 2015. As Senior Patent Legal Assistant, Stacey serves as the lead for the PLA team. She has a wealth of intellectual property patent prosecution experience from her work with Jones Burke, as well as other boutique intellectual property law firms in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area. Stacey’s expertise is in the patent application lifecycle, and some highlights of her skill set include:
- Preparing draft communications to the USPTO and filing and reporting such communications to clients
- Preparing PCT and U.S. provisional and non-provisional applications
- Overseeing client patent portfolios including managing due dates, client communications, and internal firm communications related to the portfolios
- Evaluating daily docketing reports and preparing forms for the USPTO
Sheila Ovando
Patent Legal Assistant and PCT/Foreign Filing Specialist
Sheila joined Jones Burke’s experienced team of PLAs in October of 2020. She has over seven years of experience in intellectual property, with her early experience focused on new application filings. In her current role, Sheila supports the attorneys and clients of Jones Burke by:
- Preparing draft replies to office actions/communications with USPTO filings and reporting to clients
- Preparing PCT and U.S. provisional and non-provisional applications for filing in the USPTO
- Template creation for foreign prosecution matters
- Evaluating daily docketing reports and preparing forms for the USPTO
Sheila is a graduate of the National University of Honduras.
Loren Stein
Senior Patent Legal Assistant
Loren joined the Jones Burke team in October of 2017. As part of our experienced team of patent legal assistants, Loren brings a wealth of experience in patent prosecution from her work at Birch, Stewart, Kolasch & Birch. Her specialty is litigation and USPTO DNA sequence listing preparation. In her current role, Loren supports the attorneys and clients of Jones Burke by:
- Preparing draft replies to office actions/communications with USPTO filings and reporting to clients
- Preparing PCT and U.S. provisional and non-provisional applications
- Overseeing client patent portfolios including managing due dates, client communications, and internal firm communications related to the portfolios
- Evaluating daily docketing reports and preparing forms for the USPTO
Loren graduated with a Bachelor of Arts, Biology, from George Mason University.
