Jones Burke, PLLC, is seeking a patent attorney or a patent agent to counsel clients and prepare and prosecute complex mechanical, electro-mechanical, and medical device patent applications.

Position Overview
We are seeking a talented and motivated Patent Attorney or Patent Agent with 2 to 5 years of experience to join our growing team. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background, excellent legal writing skills, and a passion for diving deep into cutting-edge technologies. This position is 100% remote, allowing you to work from anywhere in the U.S. while remaining part of a collaborative, tight-knit team environment. Both full-time and part-time opportunities are available.
Key Responsibilities
- Patent Prosecution: Drafting high-quality U.S. patent applications and preparing thoughtful, effective responses to Office Actions before the USPTO.
- Client Counseling: Assist in providing strategic advice to clients regarding patentability analyses, competitor monitoring, noninfringement and invalidity opinions, and freedom-to-operate analyses.
- Docket Management: Proactive management of your assigned docket including organization of related tasks and balancing multiple priorities.
- Portfolio Growth: Assist in managing and expanding domestic and international patent portfolios.
- Technical Analysis: Analyzing complex technical disclosures, drawings and schematics, and evaluating patent documents, industry white papers, and technical and clinical journal articles.
Qualifications & Requirements
- Experience: 2–5 years of dedicated experience in patent prosecution and client counseling with a recent focus on mechanical and/or medical device technologies.
- USPTO Registration: Must hold a valid USPTO registration number in good standing.
- Technical Degree: A Bachelor’s degree (or higher) in Biomedical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or Physics. (Other closely related engineering fields will be considered.)
- Credentials (for Attorney applicants): J.D. from an accredited law school and active membership in good standing of at least one state bar.
- Skills: Exceptional written and verbal communication skills, strong attention to detail, the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly, highly organized, and reliable in meeting deadlines.
- Attitude: You are a self-starter, an excellent team member, have a positive attitude toward client service, and the self-motivation to work independently in a remote, collaborative team setting.
